Why You Need to Delete Your WhatsApp Account

To connect your bot to a WhatsApp number, that number must not have an active WhatsApp account. If you're planning to use an existing phone number for your bot, you'll need to delete the WhatsApp account associated with it first.

Important: Simply uninstalling the WhatsApp app is NOT enough. You must delete the account itself through WhatsApp settings.

What Happens When You Delete Your Account

Before proceeding, understand what gets deleted:

  • All your message history on this number
  • All your WhatsApp groups (you'll be removed from all groups)
  • Your profile, photo, and status
  • Your WhatsApp backup data

This cannot be undone. Once deleted, your chat history is gone forever.

Alternatives to Consider

If you don't want to lose your WhatsApp history, you have two options:

  1. Change your number in WhatsApp - Transfer your WhatsApp account to a different number, then use the freed-up number for your bot
  2. Get a new number for your bot - Purchase a dedicated number specifically for your bot (contact us if you need help with this)

Already Uninstalled the App?

If you already uninstalled WhatsApp without deleting the account, you'll need to:

  1. Reinstall WhatsApp on your phone
  2. Verify yourself using SMS or phone call
  3. Follow the steps below to delete the account
  4. Then you can uninstall the app again

Step 1: Open WhatsApp Settings

Open WhatsApp and tap on Settings (gear icon in the bottom right on iPhone, or three dots menu on Android).

Step 2: Go to Account

In the Settings menu, tap on Account.

Step 3: Delete Your Account

Scroll down and tap on Delete my account.

WhatsApp will ask you to enter your phone number and confirm the deletion. Once confirmed, your account will be deleted and your number will be ready to use with Boti.
